Is this course for me?

This course is designed to provide an inter-disciplinary approach for educators from a range of professional areas.

The flexible approach and delivery offers the opportunity for participants to structure study to meet individual interests and areas of practice.

This course is intended to enable teachers to demonstrate their understanding of how the boundaries of knowledge are advanced through research.

You will be expected to carry out a sustained research study, critically reviewing the current knowledge base of a specific area of educational practice, synthesizing research findings, and reaching appropriate conclusions. You will also be able to make appropriate recommendations relevant to your area of educational practice.

If you need or would like to study a particular aspect of a particular programme, or wish to study over a longer period than the standard part-time course, you can study individual modules as an associate student. Credits gained from the study of these modules can be used towards the degree programme in the future. This also means that financial costs can be spread over a longer period of time.

What will this course cover?

The programme is offered as an inter-professional Masters in Education for education professionals working in fields such as: primary education; secondary education; tertiary education (further or higher); practice education in health and social care.

You may choose this award as a highly structured part-time route to gaining a higher qualification in your field.

In the majority of education sectors, licence to practice is linked to PGCert status (60 level 7 credits) while leadership and advanced practitioner roles are increasingly linked to attaining MA status.

Accordingly, this ‘top up’ MA programme enables you to build upon the 60 credits already gained in your PGCE and to advance your professional expertise by capturing and reflecting upon your ongoing professional education since the point of initial qualification and gaining additional skills to undertake robust and influential research in your settings, organisations or sectors.

The MA in Education has been developed with the needs of the participant in mind and offers a great deal of flexibility both in its structure and through the methods of delivery.

The programme encourages you to apply principles in practice and have the opportunity to study a particular area of practice in-depth.

Monthly support sessions are provided by the course leader to supplement individual research supervision and formal teaching on research methods.

Research supervisors are drawn from our experienced education staff and are matched to the research interests of the individual participants undertaking the programme.
